Cadmium-free brazing Materials of Environmental Protection
The application of Cadmium is wide in mid-temperature brazing with Ag-base filler metal. The addition of Cadmium can not only reduce liquids and melting range significantly, but also improve brazability. So in the previous Ag-base filler metal, Ag-Cu-Zn-Cd was widely utilized for non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals and harden alloys. The only disadvantage of Ag-Cu-Zn-Cd filler metal is that Cadmium is harmful to the healthy, especially the Cadmium vapor. Due to the environmental concerned, Cadmium should be replaced anyway.

ISO legislation : Cd content in Cadmium-free Solders for electronic assembly should be less than 0.002wt% EPA criterion: Cd and Cd compounds have been cited as one of the top 17 chemicals posing the greatest threat to human life and the environment.
EU proclaimed Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on waste electronic equipment in 2003, which means the electronic products must be Cd-free since July 1,2006, and the electronic producer must recycle electronic wastes. As we know that Cd is harmful to us, the study of Cd-free solder has drawn the increasing concern. Usually the addition of other elements to Ag-Cu alloy could be considered to improve the brazing performance. The application of Cd-free in industry can be sorted four kinds:Ag-Cu-Zn series Ag-Cu-Zn-Sn series Mnseries and Ag-Cu-Zn-In series, etc. .
